The term ‘wellness’ encompasses the many dynamics of health and includes the important aspects of choice and action.

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
World Health Organization

Wellness
- includes deliberate effort: your own intentions, choices and actions as you actively work toward an optimal state of health and wellbeing
- emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life by harmonizing all the dimensions of health (see the Wellness Wheel)

A Wellness Wheel can assist with visualizing the 'big picture' of overall health. Here is a downloadable link that may be helpful, available to all through the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
